Last week, I had the privilege to re-visit the Canadian Rockies. I spent some time enjoying the Bow Valley, the beautiful area between Banff and Lake Louise. The mountains hug the side of the valley like stacked rows of multicolored ribbons. There are patches of snow dotting the hillsides. The tallest pine trees I have ever seen are everywhere.

As we drove around looking for animals to admire (saw a bunch of elk!), I realized that my play list was coming through the car radio. And one of my favorites was blasting away. It was Gordon Mote’s version of the song, “Don’t Let Me Miss Your Glory.”

A portion of the lyrics say, “In the view from the mountains there’s a story to be told. In the crashing of the ocean, there’s a power that no man will ever hold. Don’t let me miss the grace, that all creation is singing in the honor of your name. Don’t let me miss your Glory…”

Creation was singing at the top of its lungs and God was everywhere I looked. But as powerful as those moments were, I got to thinking about how God also shows up in a powerful way, at home, in suburbia. And I don’t want to miss His glory there either.

In Ex. 33:18, Moses said, “Please show me your glory.” And this week, I am asking the Lord to help me notice His glory as I wander through my “regular life.” The “soundtrack” might not be a babbling stream dancing over some rocks, but the sound of kids playing in the park can be just as powerful, reminding me of His presence.

The smell of fresh cut grass slows me down and can direct my thoughts to our creator. Early morning coffee on my porch can help set the rhythm of the day and remind me who oversees the pattern of life. A call or text from a friend reminds me that God is glorified when we do life together.

We need to sense His presence every single day, not just when we are in the mountains (or at the beach, or on a lake, or sliding down sand dunes).

Let’s not miss His glory. Let’s cry out like the angels in Isaiah 6 and declare, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty, the whole earth is full of His glory.”
