I read an illustration recently about the very nature of God. Not sure I can substantiate its veracity, but sure makes for a cool thought. It seems that a 4-year old named Shea had a baby brother born. She started begging her parents to spend some time alone with the baby. Finally they allowed her to do so.

Standing out in the hallway listening through the crack in the door, they overheard the 4-year old ask the baby a crucial question. “Tell me what God feels like, I am starting to forget.”

I began to mull that thought over in my mind. Did that child have such a close relationship with the Lord in the womb that she really missed the interaction? What was that like? In fact, what is God really like?

Of course the answer(s) to that question can readily be found in our Bibles. Psalm 90:2 asserts that He has always existed: “Before the mountains were born, or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”

We get a glimpse of His sovereignty in Isaiah 46:10, “I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, my purpose will stand and I will do all that I please.”

The prophet, Malachi tells us “I the Lord, do not change…” John makes sure we know that God is a spirit (John 4:24), that He is all knowing (I John 3:20) and that He is love (I John 4:8).

So as we start this new week, maybe we should all just take some quiet time to consider what we actually know about God and His nature.
